Knitwear is getting the supersize treatment for winter 2017, with oversized threads dominating the cosy collections on the high street and the catwalk. That said, these heavy knits can be tricky to style, so we’ve put together a few of our favourite looks to help you master the winter warmer favourites this season.
One of the easiest ways of nailing this trend is to balance out your proportions. The top-heavy silhouette is key for this season, so big knitwear is perfect to balance with figure-hugging bottoms such as leggings, skinny jeans or a pencil skirt.
Loose All Over
A tricker look to master, but oozing plenty of those nonchalant, effortless fashionista vibes, is the oversized-all-over look. Pick a pair of wide legged trousers to wear with your oversized knit, fold your jumper under or tuck it in slightly at the waist to give your silhouette some shape. Choose some pleated-front trousers to give that long-legged illusion, finish with a pair of heels and you’ll have legs for days.
If a supremely oversized jumper isn’t enough of a statement for you, you can turn to big, bold patterns and slogans to make it even more head-turning. Political clothing is still a hot topic on the catwalk, so look to trailblazing taglines to work this look like a pro.
Luxe It Up
Create a sumptuous texture blend and elevate your oversized knit with some leather or PVC. A pair of leather trousers will add instant opulence to any piece of knitwear, but PVC trousers will bring you right in line with the trendsetting pack, winning you some serious street style points. Keep it understated by finishing off with a pair of retro trainers or running shoes. Or add to the luxury with your accessories, the Classic Kensington watch from the James Derby collection will give it an opulent finish.
Pair your supersize knit with some layers to ground the baggy silhouette. A shirt is a great layering tool, roll up your jumper sleeves to show off the shirt cuffs, and keep it buttoned up at the collar to bring some preppy style vibes to your knitwear.
The oversized knitwear trend just calls for lazy days at home and loungewear-inspired styling. Team your jumper with some distressed and loose leg denim for that off-duty, laid-back feel, and slip on a pair of mules or loafers to keep the look relaxed.
