Summer Suiting For Men
Posted on 14 May 2018
Most men have a few go-to suits in their wardrobes, with many opting for the standard black, grey and navy to wear to the office or for a special occasion. But with summer on the way and some sunshine filled soirees to dress for, we thought we'd give you a little insight into the world of summer suiting, so you can bring some warm weather style to your next big event.
Laid Back Linen
Summer brings a relaxed vibe, with outdoor dining, evening drinks and garden parties all on the agenda. Classic summer fabrics such as linen will give your tailoring the sunshine treatment. Linen is breathable and it has a natural texture that'll give your suit an effortless, laid-back charm. It's also a great choice for some subtle colour, with soft pastels such as lemon yellow, sky blue and even stone and grey all ideal for the warm weather.
Say It With Florals
If you're more of a standout dresser, look to florals for the perfect summer statement. Head to toe floral prints are a great way to bring some sunshine to your tailoring. If you can't see yourself delving into all over florals, mix and match a floral blazer or a floral pair of trousers with some neutrals - pick out the tones in the pattern for flawless pairing.
Soft As Seersucker
Give your summer suit some southern American charm with a seersucker stripe. This fabric has an instant holiday feel, so it's a great pick for dinners in the sunshine and sun-drenched weddings. Pick classic sky blue for a Riviera feel, or opt for modern colours such as orange, yellow and green - they're a great way to explore colour without having to don a solid, bright hue.
The white suit can be a tricky one to master, but not if you keep it relaxed and preppy. Wear yours with a white shirt worn open at the collar, or even with a t-shirt. Finish with slip-on loafers or a pair of pumps or trainers to keep it fresh and effortless.
Pastels are the perfect way to delve into coloured tailoring, they're soft and subtle and they create a style statement without being too standout. A soft pink suit will bring an elegant feel to the party, while a suit in baby blue is a staple summer to add to your debonair wardrobe.
Stand out in the sunshine and opt for some of the brightest shades in tailoring. Rich reds will see you through the year, but wear yours with loafers and a relaxed shirt to keep it summer stylish. Look to rich forest greens and bright emeralds for a lavish feel for a wedding, pair them with light shirts and brogues to hone that relaxed dapper vibe.
Refining Finishing Touches
You'll take your summer suit to the next level with some carefully picked accessories. Statement suits work best with simple accessories, think neutral ties and pocket squares, or keep to the summer theme with relaxed fabrics such as seersucker and linen. Keep it dapper with luxurious accessories such as a gold watch, a gold tie bar and a lapel pin… they'll keep your suit smart whatever the weather.
