Starting Your Men’s Fitness Wardrobe

Fitness pro or dragging yourself into the gym for the first time, a great capsule workout wardrobe will help you feel good from the off. Make sure you’re exercising in style with our guide to the ultimate exercise attire.

1) Shirts

Equip your workout wardrobe with a few basic tees to have on rotation. Choose a moisture-wicking fabric to keep you dry and at a comfortable temperature, and opt for a loose fit and long length so you’re confident however much you stretch and move. Dark, basic tones will mix and match around your whole gym kit and you’ll avoid the dreaded sweat marks.

2) Trainers

Choose your trainers depending on your activity. Weights don’t require anything special in terms of footwear, but exercises like running and cycling require particular sports shoes. For example, running trainers are often lightweight, with features such as cushioned soles and air pockets to increase comfort. They’re a great all-rounder if you’re doing other cardio activities as well as weights.

3) Socks

Surprisingly, there’s more to sports socks than meets the eye. Non-slip socks, trainer socks, no show socks, ankle socks… there’s a myriad of choices and they can easily get overwhelming. Stick to one rule whatever you buy: choose the same colour as your shorts and trainers to keep things sleek. Look for special features such as padded soles or ankles if you’re suffering from any foot problems from continuous exercise such as running.

4) Shorts

Perfect whether you’re doing cardio or lifting weights, shorts are a must-have for any fitness regime. Opt for mid-thigh for maximum movement and enough coverage for squats and lunges. Internal mesh will give you even more comfort, and moisture-wicking fabric will keep you cool even when you’re working up a sweat.

5) Bag

The ideal way to finish off a stylish exercise wardrobe? A slick gym bag. Go for quality and it’ll last longer with high use, and look for bags with separate shoe compartments, especially if you tend to exercise outside. Match it with your other pieces and you’ll stay stylish from head to toe whatever workout you’ve got planned.
