Red Alert! Why We Are All Heading For Red

While we were revelling in the pink hues of summer, waxing lyrical about millennial pink and shades of nude, there was another colour prepping for a takeover… Whether in shameless scarlet, cool crimson or moody maroon, now is the time for red. Fresh from the catwalk it is already dominating the high street, and here’s how you can work it into your own wardrobe this winter.

Red has long been a go-to colour for a statement piece. Whether it’s a chunky knit jumper or a leather skirt, the shade certainly has head-turning power. This season revamps the colour by playing with texture, think velvet knee-high boots, shiny vinyl pencil skirts, and deep burgundy leather and shearling jackets.

Step away from the time honoured little black dress, there’s a new staple in town. Red is now the hue to hunt for if you want an easy eye-catching piece that you can just throw on in a wardrobe crisis. Choose a velvet dress to wear with silver sandals for the festive season, or look to cheery coloured botanicals to bring your summer dress into cooler weather.

This season’s catwalks were awash with head to toe red looks. If you’re really feeling the colour, let it dominate your wardrobe. Red suits are a great place to start and they’ll bring some chic and savvy vibes to your workwear. Finish yours with a boxy white tee and some retro trainers for a nonchalant street style feel, or layer it over a polo neck for cosy vibes at the office.

Clashing

Red might be set to take over the pink parade, but the two are a match made in fashion heaven if you can overcome this once feared clashing colour palette. Hot pink and scarlet pack a stylish punch if you’re feeling brave, but you can tone things down by blending subtle shades of rust and nude. Keep the clashing in your accessories if you’re not quite ready for the full-on mismatched look.

Red and Gold

A classic combo of luxurious proportions, red and gold is the key to chic accessorising this autumn. Style one of our timeless gold watches with some red knitwear or a blazer and it’ll really elevate your wardrobe.
