London Street Style
New York Fashion Week kicks off the first round of shows this week, but we’re focusing on London’s outing with a look at some of the city’s street style. Notoriously unique and individual, the London street style comes out in full force during fashion week, so here are a few tips for creating your own trendsetting looks.
The idea of the Brit eccentric doesn’t come out of nowhere, and we’re all for channelling that vibe in some eclectic ensembles. It’s all about mixing it up here, whether it’s a designer piece with some high street, a vintage find with a piece of ultra-modern style, or a statement creation underpinned by some sharp basics.
It’s true, opposites attract, and London style is all about putting together the unexpected. Whether it’s a ballgown with a pair of trainers and a leather jacket, a tailored suit with some Converse, or a pair of tracksuit bottoms and some skyscraper heels, the bigger the juxtaposition the better for this look.
No Rain On Your Parade
So you’ve planned to wear a sundress with the perfect shades and you wake up to a torrential storm… London style doesn’t care, mix it up with a faux fur coat – the brighter the better – and express some of that devil may care Londoner attitude. It’ll win you plenty of style points.
One of the most beautiful characteristics of London is its multiculturalism. Take advantage of all the inspiration you can see across the city, you’ll find plenty of style inspiration from London’s hidden subcultures and pocket communities past and present.
The Cheek Of It
There’s nothing like the British sense of humour, and fashion is the perfect way to show off some of that playfulness. Slogans are everywhere, from tees to jumpers to hats and handbags, and they’re the perfect way of making a statement or having some fun with fashion.
Whether you’re piling on the attitude or just sticking to a statement piece, you can always take it further with your accessories. The basket bag is still going strong, a belt can bring your tailoring to a whole new level and the ugly shoe trend is about to go nuclear.
Little Bits Of Luxe
London street style doesn’t forget the finer details, and you can bring a splash of city luxury to your outfits with your jewellery. Pile up the layers discreetly using charm necklaces, bands and midi rings and delicate bracelets and watches. Take some inspiration from our ladies watch collection to underpin a wrist full of bangles or some stacking bracelets.
