Red Carpet Glamour
Awards season is underway. Gone are the Golden Globes and the SAGs, and now we’re primed for the BAFTAs and eagerly awaiting this year’s Academy Awards. Although they’re largely about accolades and trophies, one of the most important aspects of this season is the red carpet glamour. So in celebration, we have put together a list of some of the most iconic red carpet outfits of all time.
Audrey Hepburn In Hubert de Givenchy
Picking up her first award for Best Actress, Audrey Hepburn wore a Hubert de Givenchy gown in 1954. This delicate, feminine dress sealed her fate as one of the biggest fashion icons, and she showed future generations a thing or two about red carpet glamour.
Cher In Bob Mackie
Making sure her win was an unforgettable one, Cher stepped out in this Bob Mackie creation to pick up her Best Actress award in 1987. Inspired by art deco glamour, this sheer beaded gown will certainly go down in history.
Liz Hurley In Versace
Not strictly an awards ceremony dress but this gets an honourable mention for its red carpet impact. Designed by Versace and forever known as the ‘safety pin dress’, Liz Hurley wore it to the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral and it made her a household name overnight.
Gwyneth Paltrow In Ralph Lauren
Gwyneth went rosy with her Best Actress win at the 1999 Oscars. Some say her speech will be remembered as the worse of all time, but most will remember the night for this ballet-inspired voluminous Ralph Lauren gown.
J-Lo In Versace
Jennifer Lopez dared to bear and hit all the headlines at 2000’s Grammy Awards in this sheer Versace number. Plummeting past her belly button it gave the plunge neckline a whole new meaning.
Bjork In Marjan Pejoski
Love it or hate it, Bjork’s iconic swan dress is one of the most memorable red carpet fashion moments. Known for her eccentric style, the singer stepped out in this tutu draped swan creation at the Oscars in 2001, and she even scattered eggs on the red carpet as she went.
Angelina Jolie In Atelier Versace
Giving us lessons in how to work a side split for the cameras, Angelina Jolie wowed with this creation on the 2012 Oscar’s red carpet. Crafted in sumptuous velvet it was much more than your average little black dress, and it also complemented Jolie’s gothic side.
Jennifer Lawrence In Christian Dior
This floor-skimming Christian Dior gown was eye-catching for all the right reasons when Jennifer Lawrence wore it to the Oscars in 2013. It even looked elegant when she fell up the stairs to collect her statue.
