How To Master Tailoring This Season

Minimalists, rejoice, tailoring is topping the trend list for Autumn/Winter 2019. From luxurious leather paired pieces to classic neutral suiting, women's tailoring gives us all some fresh sophistication for the season. Here's how you can bring the trend into your wardrobe.

1) Blazing Squad

Tailoring doesn't have to be all about full-on suits. Dip your toe in the water with a blazer, it's a hero piece that will be everywhere this autumn. They're a great transitional staple to take your summer dresses and tops into cooler weather, and they'll always look classic and oh-so-chic with a pair of jeans.

2) Luxed Up

If suits weren't luxurious enough, the return of leather this season gives them even more reason to feel fancy. Full-on leather suits were seen all over the catwalks, but you don't have to go quite so hell for leather to channel the trend yourself. Layer a blazer with a pair of leather trousers if you want an easy way to work the look into your wardrobe.

3) The New Ugly

Every season has an 'ugly' trend. Summer's was the grandad sandal, and it looks like autumn's is going to be the waistcoat suit. Oozing androgynous vibes with its menswear-inspired lines, the waistcoat suit is best done as a matchy matchy two-piece. Make it a checked fabric for further fashion points, and wear your waistcoat oversized and open with a blouse underneath.

4) It's All A Bit Beige

Tonal looks are always a classic go-to, and after summer's all white splendour, it's time to bring out the beige. Layer your tailoring with beige pieces, whether it's a camel suit with a biscuit shirt, or a caramel pair of tailored trousers worn with a cream jumper.

5) Bourgeois Babe

As well as the classic shoulder-padded power suit, this season has seen a feminine take on tailoring, with a nod to the bourgeois 70s. This is the era when pleated skirts, nipped-in-at-the-waist jackets and hunting lodge tartans reigned queen. Arm your wardrobe with plenty of silk blouses and scarves to style this trend.
