Five Ways To Revamp Autumn Workwear
Posted on 20 August 2018
Ok, we're over it, the heatwave has officially left us. Britain may have had its summer, but rather than lament our loss we're going to start getting excited about all those new outfits and layers we can have fun styling for the cooler weather.
So whether you're back to school or back to work, we have hunted down some of the finest trends to give your workwear wardrobe a new lease of life for autumn/winter 2018. Here's how to boss your style for the upcoming season.
1) Suits With Substance
Suits get a heritage feel this season with an injection of texture and old-school inspiration when it comes to fabrics. Think check, tweed and bouclé - mix them up or go for full head to toe in matching two pieces. Men can get in on this trend too - elevate your usual smart office trousers with a more textured blazer, or take a pair of checked trousers to style with a white shirt and some brogue shoes. Add a final touch of dapper style with a pair of subtly coloured socks.
2) You Wanna Supersize?
Blazers are still a wardrobe staple for autumn/winter 2018, but this season we're taking them supersize, with oversized, masculine cuts all about creating a nonchalant, chic-without-trying silhouette. Balance yours out with a more fitted bottom, such as a midi pencil skirt or a pair of tailored suit trousers. You can even bring your office look into high style territory with some skinny leather trousers.
3) High Rise
High waisted trousers are getting a new reign this season, and paperbag waists and belted trousers are the perfect addition to your winter work wardrobe. Look to loose leg versions to pair with blouses and shirts to ace that demure, office chic style.
4) Sports In The Office
Sports style has been leaking into the boardroom for some time now, with the sports luxe look ever popular for professionals. This season's catwalks were filled with hybrid officewear / athleisurewear ensembles, perfect for casual Fridays or if you've got a job where you can play with your style. Take a pair of jogging bottoms and wear with a chiffon blouse and some high heel pointed pumps, or pair your favourite tailored trousers and jacket with some trainers.
5) Prints Please
If you're not limited to an all black or navy colour palette, this season's love for print and pattern is your excuse to bring some colour into your office wardrobe. Bright, autumnal shades such as emerald green and mustard yellow will keep it professional and stylish, while patterns such as bold, dark florals and animal prints will bring some personality to your everyday look.
Men can certainly work some of these statement shades and prints into the office too, think ties, socks and even patterned shirts to give your daywear a stylish spin.
