Fashion Week Street Style Trends We Loved
September 17, 2018
It's that time of year again. The impeccably dressed are hitting the streets and strutting down the catwalks, as London, New York, Milan and Paris showcase all their latest designer threads for Fashion Week.
Even though Fashion Week is traditionally all about the shows, it's the pavements that often play host to some of the most interesting looks. Street style dictates and predicts the trends now more than ever. So we've scanned every street and every corner for the latest looks, and here are a few of our faves, so you can start thinking about tailoring that trailblazing new season wardrobe.
Right in time for the fading of the sunshine, neon brights ruled the colour palette at New York Fashion Week, with vibrant pink, yellow, green and orange all giving a punch of colour. You don't have to wait until next spring to nod to the trend, get ahead like some of our favourite street style stars with neon knits, neon denim and neon accessories.
Get set to channel those maths teacher vibes, corduroy is definitely on the hit list this season. Go all out with a tailored two-piece, or work it subtly into your look with corduroy separates such as a blazer or a pair of trousers. Play with pale tones to bring a sumptuous, springtime feel even when the weather starts getting cooler.
3) Animal Print
It's not just about leopards anymore, a whole safari park of animals are coming to your wardrobe to play. From snakeskin to zebra print to tiger stripes and crocodile, work at least one piece of animal print into your wardrobe for a fashionista feel.
4) Cycling Shorts
We know they're a little scary, but cycling shorts are here, and they're a firm favourite with the streetwear crowd. Style them cleverly with tailored pieces and you'll steer clear of the high school PE class look. We love them paired with an oversized blazer, stiletto heels and some great gold jewellery. Finish off with one of our gold watches for sophisticated undertones.
5) Tartan On Tartan
We talked about tartan in our autumn/winter 2018 trend roundup, and it has only proven its popularity with the street style at fashion week. Tartan on tartan is the look du jour, whether it's a full check suit or a tartan skirt and matching denim jacket. Take the whole crazed mix a step further and clash your prints, think tartans of the same pattern in different colours, or mix your checks if you want to go all out. Keep the whole look together with neutrals such as white tees and black vests.
The jumpsuit, or the boiler suit, is definitely having a moment when it comes to street style and social media. You can opt for refined minimal in a plain, leg-lengthening number, or take on the pattern clashing world in a printed jumpsuit mixed with bright accessories and perhaps even a pair of snakeskin boots…
